Winning our children for Jesus (Part 1)

All of us Christian parents desire that our children follow the ways of the Lord. We desire that our children make wise choices. Choices based on the Word of God. To build their lives fulfilling God’s purposes for their lives. But many times, we parents pay little attention to this subject. We know that the most important thing in our lives are our children. We know that nothing in this world is more valuable than our family, and yet we behave as if we have all the time in our favor, all the time in the world to win the hearts of our children for Jesus. But that’s not quite true.

According to research, 86% of adults who have accepted Jesus made that commitment to God before the age of 15! 50% before they were even 10 years old!!! The remaining 14% converted in adulthood, and quite a few in old age. For me, this was a great discovery! Knowing that if my children develop a relationship with the Lord before they enter adolescence, the chances that they will remain faithful to God are immense! This is a comfort, for sure! For we know that developing the spirituality of our children is not such an easy task. It requires a lot of planning and constant analysis of priorities. God tells us in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “Let all these words that I command you today be in your heart! You shall teach them with all diligence and perseverance to your children. You shall talk about the Scriptures when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise.”

In the next article we will look at some ways we can sow God’s Word into our children’s little hearts.

God bless you!
